Anthony Cortese Directs and Edits ‘The Only’ Soccer Doc

Anthony Cortese makes his feature documentary directorial debut with The Only, now streaming on Paramount+. The film chronicles Hall of Fame goalkeeper Briana Scurry and her career as the only Black starter on the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team (USWNT) for more than a decade – and the first openly gay player in USWNT history. Twelve-time Emmy winner Cortese also serves as the film’s editor.

“Hitting send to Briana on the final cut was one of the scariest moments of my career, but she loved it,” he tells Little Black Book.
